DUSHANBE, February 1, 2012, Asia-Plus – A border guard has been detained with a large amount of narcotics in the southern Khatlon province.

Tajik law enforcement authorities say 22-year-old D.D. serving at the border-crossing checkpoint on the Tajik-Afghan border in the Farkhor district was arrested on January 31 on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking.  “Some 5.5 kilograms of hashish and more than one kilogram of raw opium were confiscated from him,” the source said.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against D.D. and an investigation is under way.
