DUSHANBE, February 15, 2012, Asia-Plus  — According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, Tajikistan exported 23 million kWh of electric power for more than 643,200 U.S. dollars in January 2012,, which was 54.6 percent more than in January 2011.

Tajikistan did not import electricity last month.

Meanwhile, Tajikistan generated 1.57 billion kWh of electricity last month; 1.55 billion kWh of electricity were generated by the hydroelectric power plants (HPP) and the remaining 2 billion kWh of electricity were generated by combined heat and power (CHP) plants.

As of February 1, 2012, there were 179 small hydropower plants in the country and only 127 of them are in operation.

Tajikistan reportedly imported 14.9 million cubic meters of natural gas for 4.5 million U.S. dollars from Uzbekistan last month, which was 1.3 million cubic meters and 1.4 million U.S. dollars more than in January 2011.
