Rahmon orders to produce more than 1 mln tons of potatoes this year

DUSHANBE, April 9, 2012, Asia-Plus  — On Saturday April 7, President Emomali Rahmon had telephone conversations with chairpersons of the cities of Khujand, Qairoqqum, Chkalovsk, Taboshar and Norak as well as the districts of Jabborrasoulov, Jirgatol, Tavildara, Tojikobod, Rasht and Nourobod to review the results of the first quarter’s work, president’s official website reports.

The regional administrators reported on measures taken to ensure regular operations of industrial enterprises, launch of new production facilities, reconstruction of roads and improvement of the quality of services rendered to the population.

District chairpersons also reported on the progress of the spring sowing campaign, extension of areas gardens and development of potato culture.

The head of state reportedly ordered to extend areas under potatoes by 2,000 hectares that will allow creating additional 4,000 jobs.  Rahmon also ordered to increase potato production to one million tons this year, the source said.
