Money transfers from Russia in 2011 make 50% of Tajikistan’s GDP

Individual persons transferred more than $3bln from Russia to Tajikistan last year. This is $800mln more as compared to 2010.

According to the Russian Central Bank, in 2011 individual persons transferred $3.039bln through various money transfer systems and Russian State Postal Service (a 38% growth). Money transfers in 2010 made a total of $2.2bln.

Russian Central Bank said that in 2012 individual persons transferred $4.276bln from Russia to Uzbekistan (more than 1.5 growth as compared to 2010), $1.572bln to Kyrgyzstan (43% growth) and $35mln to Turkmenistan.

The bank says that these figures do not include money labor migrants send through their friends, train conductors and other methods.

Uzbekistan is also ranked first in terms of the amount of a single transfer, which made $523 USD. Single transfers to Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan vary from $275 to $280 USD.

According to the Tajik Central Bank, the volume of money transfers made by individual persons in 2011 has increased by 33.6% as compared to 2010. The Tajik Central Bank did not provide the details of the volume of money transfers claiming that not all related data have been processed.

At the same time, the last year’s volume of money transfers from Russia to Tajikistan made almost 50% of the republic’s GDP in 2011 and by 30% more as compared to the volume of the 2012 state budget’s income.
