At least 400.000 bushes of wildly growing cannabis were revealed and destroyed in north Tajikistan as a result of Mak-2012 (Poppy) special operation.
As reported by Tajikistan Interior Ministry’s Department for Sughd province, a total of 325.000 bushes of wildly growing Indian cannabis were revealed in the Khujand Botanical garden, Navruzgoh park and water pump station #2 in 34th microregion of the city.
Another 10.000 bushes were revealed in Piskokat dekhkan farm in Asht region. 4.100 bushes of wildly growing cannabis were also revealed in Zarnisor Jamoat in Bobojongafurov region.
“Mak” special operation was launched in Sughd on May 20 and will last till November 30 this year.
At the same time, in the reporting period the police have seized more than 145kg of drugs in Sughd area. This is 117kg less as compared to the same period last year.
In his interview to AP head of the Analytical Department of the Tajik Interior Ministry’s Drug Control Unit in Sughd Nasim Olimov said that in the reporting period the police have seized more than 22kg of heroin, 9kg of raw-opium and more than 113kg of hashish.
A total of 98 criminal proceedings have been launched under article 200 (Illegal turnover of drugs, psychotropic agents and precursors), 201 (Illegal use of drugs, psychotropic agents and precursors) of the Criminal Code of Tajikistan. Investigation is under way.
