DUSHANBE, August 24, 2012, Asia-Plus  — On Thursday August 23, Islamic Revival Party (IRP) leader Muhiddin Kabiri, who is also deputy of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament, met here with Antje Lindertz, Chairperson of the Division for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia, German Federal Foreign Office.

An official source at IRP says the sides discussed the current situation in the region, Tajikistan and in particular in Gorno Badakhshan.

In the course of the talks, Muhiddin Kabiri expressed gratitude to the German side for cooperation and assistance provided by Germany to Tajikistan.  IRP leader especially hailed Germany’s equal attitude to the public institutions and political parties of our country, the source noted.

According to him, Kabiri noted that the current situation in Gorno Badakhshan was complicate but solvable.  “Kabiri considers that negotiations of the government with the population of this region are solution to the GBAO problems,” said the source.  “He stressed that the Islamic Revival Party is against the use of force in this situation.”

Kabiri reportedly appreciated support of all international organizations and diplomatic missions active in the country for solution of the GBAO problems.  “He, however, expressed regret that some Western countries are not well aware of the real situation in the region and this ignorance is the cause of wrong assessment of the situation,” the source added.
