DUSHANBE, August 27, 2012, Asia-Plus — The Government of Tajikistan will draft the national budget for the next year being based on the new edition of the country’s tax code.

Meanwhile, Ismoil Talbakov, deputy of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament, says the new edition of the tax code will be considered at an extraordinary sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon scheduled for September 5.

“Usually, the first sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon after recess takes place in early October, but this year, the president has decided to convene an extraordinary sitting in September, because the government should work out the national budget for 2013 on the basis of the new edition of the country’s tax code,” said Talbakov.  “The extraordinary sitting will consider the new edition of the tax code, which is supposed to be introduced gradually from 2013 to 2017.”He stressed that the parliament would pass the national budget for 2013 later than usual.  “Most likely, the parliament will pass the national budget for 2013 in mid-December.  Usually, the parliament passes the national budget in November.”

We will recall that the new edition of the tax code of Tajikistan offers reduction in the number of types of taxes by half — from 21 to 10.  The new edition of the tax code, in particular, offers to reduce the number of republican taxes from 17 to 8 and the number of local taxes from four to two.

By government’s decree the Working (WG) for working out the new Tax Code was set up on May 18, 2011 and its members included representatives of the Ministries of Finance, Economic Development and Trade, Finance as well as the Customs Service, the Tax Committee, the State Committee for Investments and State-owned Property Management, the Association of Banks of Tajikistan and the National Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises of Tajikistan.
