DUSHANBE, October 15, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon is currently in Baku, Azerbaijan to attend the next summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) that is opening there today.

Erkin Rahmatulloyev, State Adviser to the President for Foreign Policy, Sharif Rahimzoda, minister of Economic Development and Trade, Gul Sherali, Minister of Energy and Industries, Nozimiddin Zohidov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and some other officials are accompanying President Rahmon on his visit to Azerbaijan.

President Rahmon left for Azerbaijan yesterday and on the same day, he visited the city of Gabala where he got acquainted with work of the fruit-and vegetable-processing enterprise Jale, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is an international organization consisting of 57 member states. The organization attempts to be the collective voice of the Muslim world (Ummah) and attempts to safeguard the interests and ensure the progress and well-being of Muslims.

The OIC has a permanent delegation to the United Nations, and is the largest international organization outside of the United Nations.
