DUSHANBE, November 1, 2012, Asia-Plus — Islamic Revival Party (IRP) leader Muhiddin Kabiri yesterday met here with a group of German researchers who arrived in Tajikistan to exchange experience with their Tajik colleagues, IRP’s head office in Dushanbe reported.

During the meeting, Peter Graf, Professor for Intercultural Education at the University of Osnabruck (Lower Saxony, Germany), reportedly noted that at the end of last century Germany had difficulties with implementation of the concept and methodology of teaching basics of Islam at educational facilities, but at the beginning of the 21st century the German Government recognized the Islamic minority as part of German society and the problem had been removed.

For his part, IRP leader noted that experience of German researchers would be useful for Tajikistan.  In the course of the talks, Kabiri reportedly briefed German researchers on activities of the Islamic Revival Party.

German Ambassador to Tajikistan, Ms. Doris Hertrampf, also attended the meeting, the source said.

Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan was registered on December 4, 1991.  It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999.  Its official newspaper is

Najot

(Salvation).  According to some sources, IRP now has some 25,000-30,000 members.  It won two seats in the 2010 parliamentary elections.  The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia.
