KULOB, November 5, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Kulob authorities have officially commenced construction of two new roads in the area.

One of these roads will connect Baljuvon and Sari-Khosor and the second one will connect Shouroobod and Shohon.

An official source at the Kulob mayor’s office says 500,000 somoni have been allocated from the country’s budget for construction of the road from Baljuvon to Sari-Khosor.

The project for construction of the road from the administrative center of the Shouroobod district to the village of Shohon, which includes construction of a bridge across the Panj River, will be implemented by one of affiliates of the Turkish company Combined Group.

We will recall that Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Afghan Minister of Public Works Abdul Qudus Hamidi, and His Highness the Aga Khan, founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), performed the foundation stone ceremony for the Shouroobod Bridge on October 31, 2011.  The bridge, the fifth to be built in partnership with the AKDN, will connect the Shouroobod district of Khatlon province in Tajikistan with the Khohon province of Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, construction of two buildings has started in the city of Kulob.  “An office of Tajprombank will be built in the downtown of Kulob and a five-story apartment building will be constructed in one of neighborhoods of the city,” Deputy Kulob Mayor, Ozod Hasanov, said, noting that the regional budget has allocated 7.2 million somoni for construction of the apartment building.
