DUSHANBE, November 16, 2012, Asia-Plus  — According to data of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, Tajikistan has exported nearly US$18 million worth of electric power over the first ten months of this year, which is six times more than in the same period last year.

Tajikistan supplies surplus electricity to neighboring countries in a summer season.  This summer, Tajikistan has supplied electricity mainly to Afghanistan and in small volumes to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan from time to time.

Tajikistan has reportedly supplied up to 500,000 kWh of electricity per day to Kazakhstan via Kyrgyz power transmission lines.

Electricity deliveries to Afghanistan were completed in early October.  Tajikistan was supplying up to 3 million kWh of electricity per day to Afghanistan via the Sangtuda-Pul-i Khumri power transmission line at the rate of 3.57 cents per one kWh.

Over the first ten months of this year, Tajikistan has generated more than 14.1 billion kWh of electric power.  In October, Tajikistan reportedly generated more than 1.1 billion kWh of electricity

According to data of Barqi Tojik (the state-owned utility responsible for generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Tajikistan), Tajikistan’s electricity shortages during autumn-winter period amount to some 19 billion kWh.
