DUSHANBE, November 23, 2012, Asia-Plus  — A Tajik parliamentary delegation, led by the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, is attending CIS parliamentary events in St. Petersburg that are concluding today.

On Thursday November 22, Zuhurov met with his Kazakh counterpart Nurlan Negmatulin in St. Petersburg on the sidelines of the parliamentary events.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandaogn, says the sides considered issues related to further expansion of parliamentary cooperation between their countries and intensification of work of Tajikistan-Kazakhstan parliamentary friendship group.

Bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan in sectors like energy, agriculture, sports and tourism were also among major topics of the talks.

Zuhurov and Negmatulin reportedly also discussed rational use of water-and-energy resources in the Central Asian region.

The sides also discussed a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.  A special focus was given to the latest developments in Afghanistan and Kazakh parliament speaker invited the Tajik side to participate in an international conference eon Afghanistan that is expected to take place in the Kazakh capital Astana on December 4, Sultonov said.

Tajik MPS are also participating in the meetings of the CIS Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (CIS IPA) and the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).  Today, the Tajik delegation is participating in the 38th CIS IPA plenary meeting and the international conference “The World of Chingiz Aitmatov: Integration and Dialogue of Cultures.”

Established in March 1995, the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly is a consultative parliamentary wing of the CIS created to discuss problems of parliamentary cooperation.
