DUSHANBE, February 22, 2013, Asia-Plus  — The Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision under the Ministry of Health (MoH) says a flu outbreak has occurred in the country.

Navrouz Jafarov, deputy head of the Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision, attributes the flu outbreak to the beginning of a new school term.

“Unfortunately, we do not have vaccine to prevent spread of the disease,” said Jafarov.  “Therefore, physicians from out-patient clinics are carrying out explanatory work at schools.”

Meanwhile, no cases of swine flu have been registered in Tajikistan so far.  “At the beginning of 2012, some 20 cases of swine flu (H1N1) were registered in Tajikistan,” said Jafarov.  “No fatal cases were reported.”

According to statistical data from the Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision, more than 238,000 cases of acute respiratory viral infection, including 15,600 cases of influenza, have been registered in the country since the beginning of the year.
