DUSHANBE, February 28, 2013, Asia-Plus — An official presentation of the National Human Development Report 2012 “Tajikistan: Poverty in the Context of Climate Change” (NHDR) took place in Dushanbe on February 27, 2013.
NHDR was presented by the UNDP Country Office and Tajikistan’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade within the framework of the joint project “Mainstreaming Human Development in Tajikistan” (MHDT). The major goal of the project is the promotion of the Concept of Human Development at all levels, especially among decision makers, where it will be acknowledged as a basis and key criteria for social dialogue, it will also serve for further development of Tajikistan’s socio-economic policy.
Mr. Alexander Zuyev, the UN Resident Coordinator and the UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan stressed that the best way to overcome climate change impact on the poor is to integrate mainstream adaptation measures into development planning process, this is essential for achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
NHDR is a system of views on the objectives, principles, contents and ways of implementing Tajikistan’s climate policy within the country and internationally, in part related to climate change impacts, and can become the basis for formulating and implementing the country’s climate policy.
NHDR is developed by a group of national experts in the areas of poverty and macroeconomics, ecology and climate change, social issues and gender equality, calculation of Human Development Indexes and statistical analysis.
