DUSHANBE, March 13, 2013, Asia-Plus  — Austrian President, Dr. Heinz Fisher today met here with Shukurjon Zuhurov, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament).

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the sides considered issues related to inter-parliamentary relations between Tajikistan and Austria.

In the course of the talks, Tajik parliamentary speaker reportedly briefed President Fischer on Tajikistan’s hydropower potential and noted that proper development of Tajik hydropower potential would promote economic development of the countries of the region, including Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Zuhurov also informed President Fischer of the freedom of speech situation in Tajikistan, development of civil society in the country as well as activities of the country’s lower house of parliament.

Austrian president noted that his country is ready to cooperate with Tajikistan in the spheres being of mutual interest, Sultonov said.
