DUSHANBE, April 16, 2013, Asia-Plus  — As of April 1, 2013, Tajik government’s foreign debt amounted to 2.12575 billion U.S. dollars, which is equal to 25.2 percent of the country’s gross domestic product reached, an official source at the Ministry of Finance told Asia-Plus today.

“Over the first three months of this year, Tajik government’s foreign debt has come down by 43.566 million U.S. dollars,” said the source.  “As of January 1, 2013, Tajik government’s foreign debt amounted to 2.16941 billion U.S. dollars, or equal to 28.5 percent of GDP.”

Reduction has reportedly resulted from debt servicing.

The national budget for 2013 earmarked 100.4 million U.S. dollars for repayment of the principal sum and some 33 million U.S. dollars for repayment of interest.
