DUSHANBE, May 10, 2013, Asia-Plus — China’s company, Beijing Uni-Construction Group Co., Ltd has started preparations works at Tajikistan’s largest cement-producing enterprise — Tojikcement (Dushanbe cement plant) – for installation of a coal-fired rotary kiln, according to the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI) Secretariat.
Eleven Chinese specialists are currently working in Dushanbe. The coal-firing kiln is expected to be delivered to Dushanbe in mid-June and the installation work is expected to be completed by mid-September, an official source at a MoEI said.
“This kiln is able to produce up to 600 tons of cement per day,” said the source. “After installation of this kiln, Tojikcement will begin work on replacement of one more of the plant’s six kilns that run on natural gas with the coal-fired one.”
A contract with Beijing Uni-Construction Group Co., Ltd was reportedly concluded in Beijing, China on February 23, 2013.
A total cost of the project is 7.73 million U.S. dollars, including 150,000 U.S. dollars that have been provided by Tojikcement. The remaining sum has been provided by Beijing Uni-Construction Group Co., Ltd.
Tojikcement, which has four 600tpa kilns and two 300tpa lines, is the largest cement producer in Tajikistan. The plant has not been operational since the beginning of this year due to a lack of natural gas supplies.
Headquartered in Beijing, Beijing Uni-Construction Group Co. Ltd. is a state-owned construction company.
Currently there are five cement plants operational in Tajikistan with a combined cement capacity of 1.3Mta. Last year, Tajikistan produced 235,000 tons, including 203,000 tons produced by Tojikcement.
Meanwhile, a 1Mta cement plant is expected to be commissioned in southern Tajikistan in the second half of this year. Tajikistan-China joint venture, Huaxin Gayur Cement Co, Ltd, is constructing this plant with annual capacity of one million tons of cement in the Yovon district. Plant construction began on 15 September 2011 and is now nearing completion.
The Yovon cement plant will work on coal. They reportedly use the latest technologies to build the plant and it will meet regional environmental requirements.
Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd was established by Huaxin Zhongya Investment (Wuhan) Co., Ltd, the subsidiary of Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd, and Gayur Limited Liability Company. Huaxin Zhongya Investment (Wuhan) Investment Co., Ltd assumes the 75% ownership interest and Gayur Limited Liability Company owns 25 percent of the shares in Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd.
According to the annual report of Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd for 2012, the construction of the Yovon cement plant started on September 15, 2011 and it is expected to be put in commission in July this year.
Tajikistan’s annual requirements in cement have sharply increased in connection with construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP), highways and other facilities of the nationwide significance.
