DUSHANBE, May 31, 2013, Asia-Plus — As of May 1, 2013, the remainder of loans provided by Tajik banks amounted to more than 6 billion somoni, which is 38.3 percent more than on the same date last year, according to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT).

Over the first four months of this year, the short-term loans have reportedly accounted for 64.4 percent (more than 3.9183 billion somoni) of a total amount loan provided by commercial banks over the report period, and long-term loans have accounted for 35.6 percent (some 2.1657 billion somoni). 

The weighted average interest rate for loans provided in the national currency over the report period was 24.66 percent and the weighted average interest rate for loans provided in foreign currencies over the same four-month period was 20.06 percent, Tajik central bank source noted.

In January-April this year, local banks have provided 299 million somoni in microloans to residents of remote mountain areas, 50.6 percent more than in the same period last year, the source said.

Tajik central bank also notes that Tajikistan saw bank deposits grow by 10.6 percent in a year to May 1, 2013, reflecting the expanding economy and rising public confidence in the banking sector.

As of May 1, 2013, deposits for a total amount of 4.9753 billion somoni were reportedly kept at banks in Tajikistan.

Corporate deposits reportedly reached 1.7697 billion somoni (35.8 percent) and individual deposits reached 3.2056 billion somoni (64.2 percent).

Over the first four months of this year, weighted average interest rate for the local currency deposits has been 14.81 percent and weighted average interest rate for the foreign currency deposits has been 10.26.
