DUSHANBE, June 13, 2013, Asia-Plus — Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloev will provide 247,360 somoni for purchase of wedding clothes and wedding accessories for 64 couples from vulnerable families, Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor’s office said.
According to him, the funds will be provided from a special account that was opened due to donations made by sponsors.
We will recall that the Dushanbe mayor’s office will arrange a simultaneous wedding ceremony for 64 couples from vulnerable families.
This event is timed to coincide with the 16th anniversary of the National Unity Day of Tajikistan, which marked on June 27.
The wedding ceremonies are expected to be arranged at four Dushanbe’s restaurants – Rohat, Yakkachanor, Kand and Moskva (Moscow); each restaurant will arrange a simultaneous wedding ceremony for 16 couples.
This year, the main events dedicated to the National Unity Day will take place in Dushanbe, Saidov added. Theatrical show will be held at the Navrouzgoh Complex on June 27.
Sixteen years ago, on June 27, 1997, the confronting sides signed in Moscow the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord in Tajikistan.
For the purposes of achieving peace and national accord in Tajikistan and overcoming the consequences of the civil war, inter-Tajik talks on national reconciliation were conducted from April 1994 to 1997 under the auspices of the United Nations.
Protocols that were agreed and signed in the course of eight rounds of talks between delegations of the Government of Tajikistan and the United Tajik Opposition (UTO), six meetings between the President of Tajikistan and the UTO leader, and also three rounds of consultations between the delegations of the sides in Almaty, Ashgabat, Bishkek, Islamabad, Kabul, Mashhad (Iran), Moscow, Tehran and Khusdeh (Afghanistan) constituted the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord in Tajikistan.
