DUSHANBE, June 15, 2013, Asia-Plus – On Friday June 14, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received visiting World Bank Regional Director fro Central Asia, Mr. Saroj Kumar Jha.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the sides discussed a broad range of issues related to support for socioeconomic reforms in the country, anti-crisis measures taken by the Tajik government, construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP), etc.

Touching upon the assessment studies for the Roghun hydroelectricity project, the sides reportedly expressed confidence that the process of carrying out assessment studies for Roghun was transparent and it would be finished in the near future.

The two also considered issues related to development of a new strategy of cooperation between Tajikistan and the World Bank for the next four years and implementation of regional projects such as Central Asia South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade Project (CASA 1000) and a rail link connecting Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.

President Rahmon appreciated the World Bank’s support for numerous energy, agricultural, rural development, education, health and social protection projects that are being implemented in Tajikistan, the president’s website said.
