DUSHANBE, July 11, 2013, Asia-Plus — On Thursday July 11, Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi, en route to Dushanbe from Australia, had a short stay in Bangkok, Thailand.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, he met with Tomvit Yarnson (phonetically spelled), Director of the Department for South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, Foreign Ministry of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Preparations for an official visit of the Prime Minister of Thailand, Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra, to Tajikistan and her participation in the High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation that is expected to take place in Dushanbe from August 20-21 were a major topic of the talks.

The sides also discussed the upcoming conference’s agenda and ways to expand bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Thailand.  

The Prime Minister of Thailand is the head of government of Thailand. The Prime Minister is also the chair of the Cabinet of Thailand. The post has existed since the Revolution of 1932, when the country became a constitutional monarchy.  The Prime Minister is appointed by a vote in the Thai House of Representatives by a simple majority, and is then sworn-in by the King of Thailand.

Born on June 21, 1967, Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra is a Thai businesswoman and politician, member of the Pheu Thai Party, the 28th and current Prime Minister of Thailand following the 2011 general election.  Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra is Thailand”s first female Prime Minister and at 46 is the youngest Prime Minister of Thailand in over 60 years.
