DUSHANBE, July 22, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajik Prosecutor-General, Sherkhon Salimzoda, has noted that he is not going to run in the upcoming presidential election.

He stated this at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 22.  Salimzoda asked reporters not to forget services of the incumbent President Emomali Rahmon.

Tajik chief prosecutor refrained from answering the question about reasons for the arrest of former senior officer of the anticorruption agency Emom Ghoibov.

He just noted that rumors that Emom Ghoibov is allegedly father of his son-in-law do not correspondent to the facts.  “We were just in the same year at university,” Salimzoda said.

We will recall that Emom Ghoibov and Odiljon Ochilov (former senior officers of the Tajik Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption) were remanded in custody in mid-May this year in line with a ruling of the Firdavsi district court in Dushanbe to use a measure of restraint against them.

Major-General Emom Ghoibov and the former head of the agency”s investigation department in the northern province of Sughd, Odiljon Ochilov, were detained on May 13, 2013 on corruption charges.
