DUSHANBE, August 7, 2013, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday congratulated Mr. Mamnoon Hussain on his election as President of Pakistan.

In his message of congratulations, Rahmon expressed confidence in further expansion of Tajikistan-Pakistan bilateral cooperation and stressed that the Tajik side would use its best efforts to promote further expansion of cooperation with Pakistan.   

Mamnoon Hussain is a Pakistani textile businessman and politician, who was elected as the 12th President of Pakistan on July 30, 2013.  He will take office on September 8, 2013, succeeding Asif Ali Zardari, who did not seek re-election.  Mamnoon Hussain, a Nawaz Sharif loyalist, won the presidential election with 432 votes, while his rival candidate Wajihuddin Ahmed received 77 votes.
