DUSHANBE, September 17, 2013, Asia-Plus – Over the first eight months of this Tajikistan has imported some 135,000 tons of liquefied gas, which was 53,300 tons more than for the whole of 2012, according to the
Monitoring and Early Warning in Tajikistan
report for September 2013.
Tajikistan reportedly imports liquefied gas by tankers and rail cars. According to the Ministry of Energy and Industry, in August imports of liquefied gas totaled more than 23,300 tons, which was 2,800 tons more compared to July, 2013.
Tajikistan now imports liquefied gas mainly from Kazakhstan. Over 40% of country’s transportation reportedly uses liquefied gas due to high petrol prices.
As far as the piped natural gas is concerned, it is no longer being imported to Tajikistan from Uzbekistan as the supply contract, which expired at the end of 2012, has not been renewed.
