DUSHANBE, September 18, 2013, Asia-Plus – Issues related to economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Italy were a major topic of a meeting of Mr. Davlatali Saidov, Chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State-owned Property (GosKomInvest) of Tajikistan with Mr. Riccardo Manara, Italian Ambassador to Tajikistan (with residence in Tashkent, Uzbekistan) that took place here on September 18.

According to the GosKomInvest press center, Saidov informed Italian diplomat about investment climate in Tajikistan and opportunities for investing in Tajikistan’s economy.

For his part, Manara stressed that the main purpose of the visit was for him to promote expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the two nations.  He, in particular, noted that Italian entrepreneurs would like to invest in some sectors of Tajikistan’s economy, including cotton and fruit processing.

According to data of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Italy in January-August this year has valued at more than US$16.5 million.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Italy estimated at US$ 11.3 million and Tajikistan’s imports from Italy worth US$5.2 million.
