DUSHANBE, October 16, 2013, Asia-Plus – Members of the CIS election observation mission that arrived in Tajikistan to monitor the 2013 presidential election have got acquainted with work of electoral commissions in Roudaki, Vahdat and Qurghon Teppa, according to the CIS Executive Committee press center.

A special attention was reportedly given to the issues related to formation of the precinct election commissions (PECs) and the signature-gathering process that was completed recently.

We will recall that presidential elections in Tajikistan are administered by a three-tiered structure headed by the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) and including 68 District Election Commissions (DECs) and some 3,200 Precinct Election Commission (PECs).  Additional PECs are established outside of Tajikistan to facilitate out-of-country voting.

The CIS Executive Committee press center reports the mission headquarters also sent letters to the CCER, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor-General’s Office and the Interior Ministry with solicitation to inform the CIS election observation mission about consideration of complaints about violation of the election legislation.

On October 15, the CIS election observation mission head Vladimir Garkun met in Dushanbe with Ambassador Paraschiva Badescu, the head of the OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission, the CIS Executive Committee press center said.  The two reportedly exchanged information about principles of work of their missions and came to an agreement on further cooperation.
