QURGHON TEPPA, October 18, 2013, Asia-Plus —  Ethnic Uzbek community in the Tajik southern province of Khatlon reportedly support Emomali Rahmon’s candidacy for the 2013 presidential election scheduled for November 6.

A meeting of activists of the ethnic Uzbek community in Khatlon took place in Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province on October 18 and they unanimously voted for supporting the incumbent president’s candidacy for the 2013 presidential election.

Bouriboy Parpoqov, the deputy head of the Society of Ethnic Uzbeks in Khatlon, says he does not see any other worthy candidates for president, except Emomali Rahmon.

“We do not know other candidates and we will not vote for them,” Parpoqov told Asia-Plus in an interview on October 18.

Six presidential candidates have officially registered for the election.  In addition to the incumbent President Emomali Rahmon, they are Tolibbek Bukhoriyev from the Agrarian Party; Olim Boboyev from the Party of Economic Reforms; Ismoil Talbakov from the Communist Party; Abduhalim Ghafforov from the Socialist Party; and Saidjaffar Ismonov from the Democratic Party.
