KHUJAND, March 12, 2014, Asia-Plus — Two sisters from the northern city of Khujand have been arrested on suspicion of trafficking local young women to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to the Interior Ministry’s office in Sughd, Khujand police on March 11 arrested two sisters, M.R., 39, and M.R., 26, who were allegedly involved in trafficking local young women to UAE.

“In January 2013, they persuaded a 34-year-old woman from Isfara to go to the United Arab Emirates, promising her job, but the woman they recruited was actually intended for UAE brothels,” the source said.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the sisters under the provisions of Article 130 (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – human trafficking; an investigation is under way.
