DUSHANBE, March 28, 2014, Asia-Plus – A quadrilateral summit of Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Tajikistan took place in the Afghan capital of Kabul yesterday on sidelines of the Fifth International Navrouz Festival.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, regional issues of peace, security, trade and economic cooperation figured at the summit.
The sides, in particular, discussed issues related to construction of power transmission lines, automotive highways and railroads.
Speaking at the meeting, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon offered the establishment of a forum for economic and cultural cooperation and invited presidents of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan to visit Dushanbe in September when a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member nations will take place in the Tajik capital.
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, who arrived in Kabul on Wednesday to attend the international Navrouz festival, left the Afghan capital for Dushanbe Thursday afternoon.
Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sharif Rahimzoda, Minister of Energy and Water Resources Usmonali Usmonzoda, Minister of Transport Khairullo Asozoda, Minister of Culture Shamsiddin Orumbekov, Presidential Aide for Foreign Policy Erkin Rahmatulloyev and some other high-ranking state officials accompanied President Rahmon on his visit to Afghanistan.
