DUSHANBE, March 29, 2014, Asia-Plus – The Islamic Revival Party (IRP) has begun preparations for the 2105 parliamentary elections.
According to IRP’s headquarters in Dushanbe, the party’s organizations in districts subordinate to the center have set up a staff on preparations for the next parliamentary elections that are expected to take place in the country in late February 2015.
We will recall that that the IRP withdrew from the Public Council on March 3, 2010 in protest against the official results of the 2010 parliamentary elections.
The Public Council of Tajikistan was established in April 1996 on the basis of the Public Accord Agreement signed first on March 9, 1996 for the period of three years by pro-government political parties and NGOs in a show of support for the peace process. It was prolonged for further three years in 1999.
The IRP has two seats in the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) – Muhiddin Kabiri and Saidumar Huseini; both of them came to the parliament from the party list.
Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan was registered on December 4, 1991. It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999. Its official newspaper is
Najot
(Salvation). According to some sources, IRP now has more than 40,000 members. It won two seats in the 2010 parliamentary elections. The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia. Current chairman of the IRP is Muhiddin Kabiri.
