DUSHANBE, June 5, 2013, Asia-Plus – The fourth meeting of the Tajikistan-Poland intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation kicked off in Dushanbe today.

Presided over by Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Umed Davlatzod, and Deputy Minister of Economic of Poland Andzej Dycha, a two-day meeting is discussing state and prospects of further expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.

“A special attention will be given to implementation of joint projects, promotion of investment and development of entrepreneurial activity,” an official source at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan (MoEDT) told Asia-Plus in an interview.

The sides reportedly outlined sectors like agriculture, construction, pharmaceutics, banking, light industry, and tourism as areas that could drive expansion of trade between the two countries.

According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Poland last year valued at 4.2 million U.S. dollars, which was 300,000 U.S. dollars fewer than in 2012.

A conference of representatives of the business communities of the two countries will take place on the sidelines of the commission’s meeting.
