DUSHANBE, July 15, 2014, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday received Mr. Li Yan Je (phonetically spelled), a Senior Advisor to China’s company, Chuntai-New Silk Road.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, Chuntai-New Silk Road is engaged in investment in enhancement of the agrarian sector in China’s Xinjiang-Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR).
The sides reportedly discussed issues related to establishment of cooperation between the Chinese company and Tajik enterprises in growing and processing cotton in Tajikistan.
Mr. Li, in particular, noted that Chuntai-New Silk Road intended, in cooperation with Tajik farmers and specialists, to introduce the advanced technologies for cultivation of cotton in Tajikistan and launch various enterprises with capacity of processing up to 15,000 tons of cotton fiber into manufactured goods.
At first, the Chinese company reportedly intends to invest more than 120 million U.S. dollars (USD) in the mentioned projects that will create more than 6,000 new jobs in the country. In the future, the volume of investments will increase to 200 million USD and the number of new jobs will increase to 15,000, the Tajik president’s official website reports.
