Tajik President, Emamali Rahman, sent a congratulatory telegram to the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, on the occasion of the Independence Day of India.
According to the President’s press service, President Rahman in his message underlined that the rapid economic development of India is a reason of sincere joy for the friends of this country, including Tajikistan.
The message party says: “Tajikistan is interested in developing relations with India, which is a reliable friend and an important partner to our country in the region.”
On 20 February 1947, the British Prime-Minister, Clement Attlee, stated that the British government will provide full independence to India by July 1948 at the latest. After negotiations with all the concerned parties, on 3 June 1947, Louis Mountbatten, the Governor General of India, proposed the partition of British India into two independent states: Muslim and Hindu. Based on the plan, the British parliament developed and adopted the Indian Independence Act, which received Royal Ascent on 18 July 1947. At midnight on 14/15 August 1947, India became an independent state.
