The two countries’ deputy prime-minister reached an agreement on a number of issues in Bishkek.

A joint meeting of government delegations of the Kyrgyz Republic and of the Republic of Tajikistan was held on Tuesday in Bishkek on delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

The Kyrgyz side was represented by the Deputy Prime-Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Abdyrahman Mamataliev, and Tajikistan was represented by the Tajik Deputy Prime-Minister, Muradali Alimardan.

According to the official portal of the Kyrgyz government, a protocol was signed, according to which the parties agreed to simultaneously begin the construction of Kok-Tash – Ak-Say – Tamdyk – Kishemish road (detouring from Tajikan village of Tajikistan), as well as the reviewed fourth option of the Isfara – Varukh road (detouring Ak-Say village of Kyrgyzstan).

Also, the parties agreed on beginning the construction of two bridges and adjacent road segments by 5 September, 2014, in accordance with the approved plan of course, based on the 31 March, 2014 inter-governmental agreement.

Meanwhile, an agreement has been reached on creation of favorable conditions for road construction, including the redeployment of border posts in the road construction area.

The border incident, which took place in Eski-Oochu area of Leylek district in Batken province of Kyrgyzstan (near Ovchi Qalacha of Babajan Ghafourov district in Soghd province of Tajikistan) was also discussed during the meeting.

The parties took note of the Kyrgyz Border Service and the Tajik Head Military Prosecutor’s information, and agreed on creating a joint commission (an investigative team) of law-enforcement agencies for an objective investigation of all incidents, which have taken place on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border since January 2014.

By the end of the talks, the parties exchanged views on the previously signed agreements on starting the delimitation and demarcation process of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, as well as maps and schemes of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, which are being studied.

The next joint meeting will take place in the territory of Tajikistan.
