DUSHANBE, October 14, 2014, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s poverty rate will decrease to 30 percent in 2015, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon noted at a meeting with entrepreneurs and investors that took place in Dushanbe on October 14.
In 2010-2013, the poverty rate reportedly decreased from 45 to 35 percent due to the achievement of macroeconomic stability.
“Last year, gross domestic product (GDP) rose 7.4 percent, population’s monetary income increased by 16.5 percent and the average monthly wage increased by 20 percent,” the president noted.
According to him, individual deposits kept at Tajik banks have increased more than 3.2 times in five years to December 31, 2013, reaching 4 billion somoni.
Over the report period, the number of newly created and restored jobs has reached more than 870,000, Rahmon said, noting that 250,000 new jobs will be created in all sectors of the national economy this year.
“In 2010-2014, foreign investments to the total amount of more than 15 billion somoni, including more than 6.5 billion somoni provided in foreign direct investments, were attracted for development of the country’s economy,” the president said, noting that investments have flowed mainly into the following sectors: mining; communications; exploration work; construction; and agriculture.
We will recall that Tajikistan has designed, approved and developed the National Development Strategy up to 2015 and the series of mid-term Poverty Reduction Strategies. The country has completed the second and the third phases of the poverty reduction strategy (2007-2009 and 2010-2012) and has developed the Living Standards Improvement Strategy of Tajikistan for 2013−2015.
The Living Standards Improvement Strategy of Tajikistan for 2013-2015 years is a concluding phase of a decade of implementation of the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan up to 2015; it considers many issues related to achievement of many strategic objectives, such as reform of public administration, maintaining rule of law, demographic projection and planning, regulation of labor migration, development of private sector, supporting middle class.
