DUSHANBE, November 15, 2014, Asia-Plus – A legal hotline will be launched in Tajikistan next week.

A joint cooperation between HELVETAS Tajikistan, Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia in Tajikistan and the Ministry of Justice paved the way for a legal hotline in Tajikistan

The main aim of the hotline is to facilitate access to free legal information of poor and disadvantaged people, especially in rural areas.  The long term expectation of the initiative is to build their legal awareness and protect their rights.  Due to transportation issues Legal Aid Centers are often out of reach for citizens of rural areas, but with the launch of the hotline the situation is expected to be easier.

The system is expected to provide telephone counseling, legal information and consultations for men and women on family related legal issues, inheritance, land and administrative laws and refer clients to the Project Legal Aid Centers if the complexity of their cases/situations requires it.  A four-digit hotline number, 3040, will be available beginning on November 17.
