DUSHANBE, November 27, 2014, Asia-Plus — The Dushanbe combined heat and power (CHP) plants Dushanbe-1 and Dushanbe-2 as well as the boiler houses Vostochnaya (Eastern) and Zapadnaya (Western) are now able to meet only 13 percent of the city’s heating requirements, an official source at the Dushanbe mayor’s office told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, Dushanbe’s heating requirements in winter period amount to some 1,300 Gcal/h while the city’s CHP plants and boiler houses are able to provide only 169 Gcal/h during this winter period, including some 49 Gcal/h generated by the Dushanbe-1 CHP plant, 53 Gcal/h generated by the Dusahnbe-2 CHP plant, 53 Gcal/h generated by the Zapadnaya boiler house and 14 Gcal/h generated by the Vostochnaya boiler house.

We will recall that the first 50 MW unit of the first line of the Dusahnbe-2 CHP plant was introduced into operation in January this year and the second 50 MW unit of the first line was introduced into operation on September 13, 2014.

On September 13,   Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping also inserted the time capsule into the foundation stone for construction of the second line of the Dushanbe-2 CHP plant.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Rahmon said that the second line would increase the plant’s capacity by 300 megawatt.  The second line is expected to be introduced into operation in two years.

This coal-powered plant is being built in the Luchob area of the Tajik capital and construction of it is reportedly in compliance with Tajikistan’s environmental regulations.
