DUSHANBE, February 7, 2015, Asia-Plus — 44 U.S. election observers are expected to monitor the parliamentary election that will take place in Tajikistan on March 1, 2015.

“Representatives of the U.S. election observation mission will be registered with the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) on February 9,” Abdumannon Dodozoda, the head of the CCER’s office, told Asia-Plus Saturday afternoon.

“112 representatives of OSCE”s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the United States will be registered with the CCER as election observers by February 9,” Dodozoda added.

In all, more than 500 representatives of regional, international organizations and separate countries are expected to monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections in Tajikistan as international observers.

Tajikistan’s Parliament (Majlisi Oli) has two chambers: the Assembly of Representatives (Majlisi Namoyandagon) and the National Assembly (Majlisi Milli).  Majlisi Namoyandagon has 63 members, elected for a five-year term in, 22 by proportional representation (party list) and 41 in single-seat constituencies.  Majlisi Milli has 33 members, 25 elected for a five-year term by local legislature (majlis) members and eight appointed by the president.
