DUSHANBE, February 9, 2015, Asia-Plus – On Monday February 9, Tajik First Deputy Prime Minister, Davlatali Said, received Mr. C.C. Yu, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Tajikistan.

Subhiddin Muhiddinov, a senior consultant to the Tajik president’s press service, says the two discussed state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the Bank.

“In the course of the talks, the sides also exchanged views on preparation of a new five-year Country Strategy and Program (CSP) fro 2016-2020 for Tajikistan,” Muhiddinov said.

We will recall that the ADB has agreed to boost its assistance to Tajikistan by around $20 million this year.  The 2015 assistance will be used to support development of the private sector, railways and water resources, and to help strengthen the investment climate.

Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998 and, to date, ADB has approved total assistance of around $1.3 billion in concessional loans, grants, and technical assistance to the country. The ADB-Tajikistan partnership has promoted social development, upgraded and built new infrastructure, expanded agricultural production, and encouraged regional cooperation and trade under the CAREC Program.

The Tajikistan Resident Mission (TJRM) was inaugurated in November 2003.  Located in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, TJRM”s responsibilities include: policy dialogue; country reporting; country strategy and program formulation; regional cooperation; portfolio management; project administration; economic and sector work; financial and administrative activities; coordination of ADB”s activities with the Government, donors, NGOs, academic institutions, private sector, and other members of civil society; and external relations and information dissemination.
