DUSHANBE, February 10, 2015, Asia-Plus — On Monday February 9, Tajik Minister of Economic Development and Trade Nematullo Hikmatullozoda received Mr. Kiyoshi Kodera, Vice-President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) press center, Mr. Kodera congratulated Mr. Hikmatullozoda on his appointment as the minister of economic development and trade and outlined the main purposes of his visit to Tajikistan.

JICA vice-president reportedly arrived in Tajikistan to discuss with Tajik state officials JICA’s activities in the country and impact of external factors on Tajikistan.

Tajik minister, for his part, expressed satisfaction with expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan.

Hikmatullozoda and Kodera also discussed issues related to prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and JICA, JICA’s new strategy for Tajikistan, the current economic situation in the country and factors of sustainable development, foreign economic ties and implementation of joint projects, the source said.

We will recall that Mr. Kiyoshi Kodera heading a JICA delegation arrived in Dushanbe on February 9 on a three-day working visit.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency is an independent governmental agency that coordinates official development assistance (ODA) for the government of Japan. It is chartered with assisting economic and social growth in developing countries, and the promotion of international cooperation.

JICA started providing technical assistance to Tajikistan in 1991, and Representative Office of JICA in Tajikistan was established in 2006.
