DUSHANBE, February 17, 2015, Asia-Plus – More than 2,200 crimes were reported in Tajikistan last month, which was 20.5 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

There were 510 serious crimes reported last month, which was 1.0 percent more than in January 2014.

The number of murders and attempted murders during last month reportedly increased by 30 percent.  The number of reported thefts increased 1.7 times and the number of reported residential burglaries increased 1.8 times.

In January 2014, 264 economic crimes, including large-scale embezzlement, misappropriation and bribery, were reported (a 14.3 percent increase compared to January 2014), of which 111 were revealed by internal affairs agencies.  90 criminal proceedings were instituted.

Compared to January 2014, there was a 4.3 percent increase in the number of bribery cases.

58.2 79 percent of all the crimes were solved last month compared to 56.2 per cent in January 2014.
