DUSHANBE, February 17, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’s Security Council discussed issues related to providing economic security, combating corruption and maintaining public order at a February 17 meeting, presided over by President Emomali Rahmon, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

Speaking at the meeting, Rahmon reportedly called corruption a “dangerous act against state” and noted that the fight against this evil is one of the main ways to provide economic security and security of state as a whole.

The head of state pointed to the necessity of strengthening the country’s financial system, efficiently using budgetary funds and combating corruption.

The president described corruption as a “global problem alongside terrorism and extremism.”  

Heads of Accounts Chamber, the Agency for Sate Financial Control and Combating Corruption and other law enforcement agencies reported on the results of work on combating corruption.

The head of state ordered the Accounts Chamber to inspect financial activity of the National bank of Tajikistan (NBT) annually.

Director the Agency for Sate Financial Control and Combating Corruption, Abdufattoh Ghoib, in particular, noted that according to findings by the anticorruption agency, corruption has cost Tajikistan at nearly one billion somoni over the past five years.  According to him, nearly 600 million somoni of the damage has been reimbursed.

Rahmon reportedly ordered at the meeting that all deputy chief prosecutors and regional prosecutors must be replaced.
