DUSHANBE, February 26, 2015, Asia-Plus — The Islamic Revival Party (IRP) candidate running for election to the parliament in Constituency # 30 (Rumi district in Khatlon province), Abduqahhor Davlat, has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Rahimbek Raupov, the head of the mahalla named after Gorky in the Tugalang jamoat in the Rumi district, in a court in the Rumi district, asking for 150,000 somoni as compensation of moral damage.

Mahmoudjon Fayzrahmon, a spokesman for the IRP, says Abduqahhor Davlat accuses Rahimbek Raupov of hampering his election campaign and abusing office.

“Raupov has prevented our candidate from meeting with local residents,” the IRP spokesman said

“If Abduqahhor Davlat wins the suit he will use the money to beautify the mahalla and construct a clubhouse there,” Fayzrahmon added.  

Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia.  The IRP was registered on December 4, 1991.  It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999.  Its official newspaper is

(Salvation).  According to some source, the IRP now has some 50,000 members.
