DUSHANBE, April 23, 2015, Asia-Plus – The Government of Germany has provided the state-of-the-art electronic equipment for carrying out fieldwork to the Main Geology Directorate under the Government of Tajikistan.

According to the Main Geology Directorate press center, German Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Holger Gren, attended the equipment-handover ceremony.

The assistance was reportedly provided in the framework of a joint project,

Mineral Resources for Development of Tajikistan

.

The project is being implemented on the basis of a memorandum on scientific and technical cooperation signed between the Main Geology Directorate of Tajikistan and the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources of Germany in December 2011.

GIZ says that under the project,

Mineral Resources for Development

, specialist personnel in geological services, supervisory and environmental authorities, research institutions and specialist departments of the relevant ministries in Tajikistan receive training as modern service providers for the mining industry.  This includes, for instance, conducting inspections for environmental, occupational health and safety and technological aspects, developing methodological tools, drafting a register of contaminated mining sites and providing advisory services for environmentally sound gold extraction in the small-scale mining industry.
