DUSHANBE, June 4, 2015, Asia-Plus – On Thursday June 4, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received visiting Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, issues related to military and technical cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation were a major topic of the meeting.

Rahmon and Shoygu also exchanged views on the current situation in the region against the background of deterioration of the situation in the northern provinces of Afghanistan.

In this context, a special attention was paid to strengthening of Tajikistan’s common border with Afghanistan and rearmament of the Tajik armed forces.

Rahmon and Shoygu also pointed to the necessity of coordination of actions of Tajikistan’s power-wielding structures and the Russian military base deployed in Tajikistan.

They also discussed issues of training of personnel for the Tajik national army at Russian higher military schools, the Tajik president’s official website said.
