DUSHANBE, June 18, 2015, Asia-Plus – The 73rd session of the Council of Border Troops Commanders of the CIS member nations is going on in Dushanbe today.

Representatives of border services of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan as well as representatives of border management services of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan are participating in the meeting

The meeting has focused on issues related to cooperation between border services in settling crisis situations, combating drug trafficking and countering illegal migration.

Addressing the meeting, Tajik presidential adviser on national security Sherali Khairulloyev called on border services of the CIS member nations to actively cooperate with Tajik border troops in strengthening the CIS southern border  

The session participants are exchanging views on the current situation on the outer border of the CIS, topical problems of cooperation between the border services of the CIS nations and discussing the results of joint events held in 2014-2015 and the plan of actions for 2016.

They are also discussing issues related to formation of an alignment for settlement of crisis situations on the CIS outer borders.

The session participants also discussed the preliminary results of a joint special border operation, dubbed 2015 Zapad (West), and preparedness for conducting a special operation, dubbed 2015 Pogranichnoye Bratstvo (Border Brotherhood), in the second–half-year of 2015.

The session is expected to result in signing of a number of documents on cooperation between the border services of the CIS nations.

On June 19, the session participants are scheduled to visit the Hamadoni and Shouroobod stretches of the Tajik-Afghan border.

Established on July 6, 1992, the CIS Council of Border Troops Commanders is a corporate body of the CIS Council of Heads of State and the CIS Council of Heads of Government.  The CIS Council of Border Troops Commanders considers the matters of coordination of the CIS borders’ protection.
