DUSHANBE, July 23, 2015, Asia-Plus — In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Usmonali Usmonzoda noted on July 22 that Tajikistan has exported more than 546 million kWh of electricity over the first six months of this, which was 9.4 percent more than in the same period last year.

“In January-June 2014, Tajikistan supplied about 498 million kWh of electricity to neighboring countries,” the minister said.

Over the first half of this year, Tajikistan has reportedly exported 504 million kWh of electricity to Afghanistan and little more than 40 million kWh of electricity to Kyrgyzstan.

Usmonzoda noted that Kyrgyzstan is currently receiving up to 1.5 million kWh of electricity from Tajikistan per day.

The minister said that Tajikistan plans to increase electricity exports to Afghanistan beginning next month.  “Tajikistan now accounts for about 70 percent of Afghanistan’s electricity imports,” he stressed.

Over the first six months of this year, Tajikistan has reportedly generated more than 8.6 billion kWh of electricity, which was 5.7 percent more than in the same period last year.
