Dushanbe. 14 August. “Asia Plus” — On Wednesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Aslov, met with the World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia, Saroj Kumar Jha.

As informed by the information department of MFA, the sides exchanged opinions on the implementation of joint projects and discussed the priority directions for cooperation.

The issues related to the support of the social and economic development of the country and further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the World Bank were also discussed during the meeting.

According to the data of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management, during the period from 1996 to 2014 the World Bank has provided $978 million to Tajikistan as credits, grants and trust funds, out of which almost $751 million are already spent. Around 32% of these funds were directed to financing the agricultural sector, ecology and rural development.

Other big sectors that received support from the World Bank were: economic policy (16%), energy (13%), water supply and urban development (9%), healthcare and social protection (7%), education (8%).

The new World Bank partnership Strategy for Tajikistan for the period of 2015 – 2018 has been approved by the Council of Executive Directors of the Bank in June last year. This is the joint Strategy of World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC) with the preliminary program financing of $ 255 million.
