DUSHANBE, October 21, 2015, Asia-Plus — Implementation of the Safe City Project has earned Tajikistan more than 50 million somoni, the Interior Ministry Traffic Police Directorate chief Mahmadsaid Saidzoda announced at a session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) on October 21.
Presenting the draft law on amendments proposed to the country’s law on state duty, Saidzoda noted that the draft law, in particular, provides for raising state duty on the power of attorney for disposal of property from 80.00 somoni to 600.00 somoni.
Parliamentarians voted for endorsement of the amendments proposed to the law on state duty.
They also unanimously endorsed amendments proposed to the country’s law on road traffic.
We will recall that Tajik Ministry of Finance and China’s Export-Import Bank (China Exim Bank) signed a loan agreement on implementation of the Safe City Project in Beijing on May 20, 2013. The Safe City Project provides for installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras across Dushanbe for round-the-clock monitoring of movement at all important locations such as crossroads, streets and squares.
An estimated budget for implementation of the project is 22 million USD, including a 20.9 million USD loan from China’s Exim Bank. The loan is reportedly repayable within twenty years due to fines that will be paid by traffic offenders.
China”s Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd has installed the CCTV cameras in Dushanbe.
The CCTV cameras monitor the streets to prevent traffic violations and the number of traffic accidents has reportedly reduced in Dushanbe by 50 percent due to installation of these cameras.
