Rahmon convenes meeting with senior security officials

DUSHANBE, November 24, 2015, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon convened on November 23 a meeting in Dushanbe of senior police and security officials to discuss efforts to combat organized crime and strengthen peace and stability in the country.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the meeting participants included permanent members of the Security Council, heads of the Supreme, Constitutional and High Economic courts, chiefs of power-wielding and law enforcement structures, as well as senior representatives of relevant ministries and agencies.

Prosecutor-General Yusuf Rahmon reported on reasons and factors for organization of military coup in the country in early September and the current situation regarding the fight against terrorism and extremism as well as on measures taken to strengthen peace, stability and security in the country.

The ministers of defense and interiors as well as the head of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) and the border troops commander then briefed the president on their efforts to investigate and prosecute criminal cases related to organized crime and maintain stability and security in the country.

Speaking at the meeting, President Rahmon reportedly expressed his opinion about actions of the power-wielding and law enforcement structures during the operation that was carried out against the illegal armed group of the mutinous general Abduhalim Nazarzoda from September 4 to September 16 this year.  The president stressed that a number of mistakes had been made during the special operation.
